The Cheetah, a single electron sensitive detector has been recognized as an excellent solution for the microscopy society for various applications from basic electron diffraction (ED) experiments to uses in techniques such as Precession Electron Diffraction, 4D STEM (scanningTEM), cryo-EM and 3D ED Tomography, where standard CCD and CMOS detectors lack the competence to capture the information these methods can give.
This technology is based on sophisticated read-out ASICs, called Medipix/Timepix, where high resolution timing and spectral information of particles can be obtained. Get to know the hybrid pixel detector.
The newest in line, Cheetah1800, is a new retractable detector system with 512 x 512 pixels for TEM 35mm port. It is the ideal detector for applications which require high spectral capabilities and high frame rates. Simultaneous detection in multiple spectral ranges is achieved by setting two thresholds and up to 24 bitcounter depth allows longer frame acquisitions. With the continuous RW mode speeds of 2000 fps with 12 bits counter depth is reachable.
