Hans has been working with high-tech companies since receiving his MSc degree (Ir.) in Applied Physics at the Delft University of Technology in 1982. He started his career at Philips International (now NXP) and ASM Europe. He then moved from European Silicon Structures (ES2), to a European startup (now part of Atmel US).
In 1992 he founded Riverside Investments with the intention to start new companies. The first company was CPS Europe, an electronics project development company that was integrated in 1996 with The Pijnenburg Group. In 2011 Optics11, Omniradar and Pepscope were started, all high-tech startup companies.
Hans is co-founder and director of Nascent Ventures, a VC fund that provides both seed capital and management to high-tech startups.

CFO: Steven Tan linkedin

Steven is co-founder and director of Nascent Ventures. He has been working with high-tech startup companies since he received a MSc. from the Delft University of Technology in 1989. Immediately after graduation, Steven started his own engineering company. After completing an MBA Program of the Rotterdam School of Management of Erasmus University Rotterdam, Steven became executive partner at Holland Venture, a venture capital fund focused on early-stage technology in North-West Europe and Israel. In 2006 Steven joined the newly established Technology Transfer Office (“TTO”) of Erasmus Medical Center and was responsible for technology commercialization and startup creation. In 2010 Steven became director of IXA. During his career, Steven played a leading role in the establishment of 16 new and often successful startups and was responsible for the equity management of 36 startups and the management of a portfolio of 120 licenses.

CTO: Jord Prangsma linkedin

Jord Prangsma works as CTO at ASI. He’s got a PhD in physics at the AMOLF institute in Amsterdam and afterwards worked for several years in academia in Germany and the Netherlands. He was application specialist at a company making OEM spectrometers and built up the R&D department in an agricultural technology start-up.

CSO: Dmytro Byelov linkedin

Dmytro Byelov is appointed as CSO at ASI, specializing at implementing methods of physics, mathematics and programming for practical applications. Dmytro attained a PhD in physical chemistry at the University of Münster. After which he conducted several researches at the Odessa State Polytechnic University, FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF) and Van ‘t Hoff Laboratory for physical and colloid chemistry. Presently, he is responsible for software development and testing at ASI.

Hans graduated in Biotechnology and Environment Management. After spending some years in research in GMP laboratory, he started his commercial career. He has an extensive experience in sales management/ business development/ marketing/ new product positioning, gained in different markets such as Life Science/diagnostics (Human, veterinary, food & agro).

Joel Keelor Product manager

Development Manager: Dr. Joel D. Keelor linkedin

Joel works with ASI as development manager for mass spectrometry applications. His early career
interests and experience include microfabrication, optical sensors, and thin-film photovoltaic devices. In
2016, he earned his doctorate in analytical chemistry from Georgia Institute of Technology, where his
research efforts were focused on coupling discharge-based ambient ionization techniques and ion
mobility spectrometry with mass spectrometry. Before joining ASI, he was employed as a postdoctoral
researcher with the Maastricht Multimodal Molecular Imaging (M4I) Institute, working with industry
partners to develop new instrumentation for imaging mass spectrometry involving beam-based ion
sources and time-of-flight analyzers.

Operations Manager: Fei An Tjan linkedin

Fei An Tjan works as operations manager at ASI. She graduated in New Media at the UvA but got more involved in setting up and coordinating projects and events in recent years. At ASI, she is working in project management, HR, logistics and marketing.

Application Scientist: Dr. Jingming Long linkedin

Dr. Jingming Long is an application scientist at ASI. After he obtained a PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of Iceland in 2013, he worked at Max Born Institute for 4 years as a postdoctoral researcher. At MBI, he was responsible for developing a new compact ion-ion coincidence momentum imaging spectrometer, which applied a Timepix detector. At present, Jingming’s work is mainly focused on application of the new camera TPX3Cam.

Research Scientist and Software Engineer: Dr. Bram Bouwens linkedin

Bram Bouwens has the function of research scientist and software engineer. He finished his PhD in high energy physics at the University of Amsterdam. Among other things, Bram has worked as the Head of the R&D Department at Fredhopper for almost 12 years. Since 2010, he is CIO of Sensiflex. Before his employment at ASI, Bram was a Research Associate at Nikhef (National Institute for Subatomic Physics).

Electronics Engineer: Kiavash Mortezavi Matin linkedin

Kiavash graduated in embedded system engineering (MSc.) at University of Twente. In ASI, he is involved with embedded hardware and software designs, both low- and high-level. In addition, he is experienced with several types of FPGAs, digital and analog architectures.

Application Scientist: Dr. Erik Maddox linkedin

Dr. Erik Maddox works at ASI as an application scientist. He obtained his PhD in experimental particle physics in 2004. Since then he worked for several small companies on the development of new and advanced instrumentation for planetary research, astronomy, (bio)medical and molecular imaging systems. With his broad experience in the fields of experimental physics and software development he can contribute constructively to different stages stages of R&D projects: Modelling and simulation, design, prototype testing, calibration, data acquisition and data analysis. Currently Eriks work at ASI is focused on the development of the next generation of electron detectors for electron microscopy applications.

Margret Buter works as Financial coordinator for ASI. She completed her studies Business Economics at the School for Business Administration and Economics (HEAO in Dutch) in Alkmaar . After her studies she fulfilled several accounting positions at various companies. Margret is responsible for all financial administration at ASI.

Mechanical Technician: Matthijs van Raaij linkedin

Matthijs van Raaij has a background in mechanical engineering and is experienced with 3D CAD software, and product develpment. For ASI he will have tasks linked to product support and mechanical duties.

Portrait Wessel Rijk Research Assistant

Research Assistant: Wessel Pieter Rijk

While working on his physics bachelor thesis, which was on the Medipix3RX, Wessel joined ASI as a Research Assistant. Having experience with hybrid pixel x-ray detectors, Wessel’s tasks will include assembling and testing detectors among other things. Wessel is currently still a bachelor physics student at the University of Amsterdam.

Early Stage Researcher: Navrit Bal

In September 2016, Navrit joined as Early Stage Researcher at ASI, working on Medipix3 detectors. Navrit received his Physics MPhys degree from the University of Kent with a study abroad year at the University of California, Berkely. During this period, Navrit had a summer job at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

Production and Test Engineer: Jan van Doorn

After graduating in Applied Physics at the Delft Technical University of Technology, Jan worked in various R&D positions at a manufacturer of transducers for the hearing instruments industry. Later in his career he was responsible for development, production, and quality assurance in two medical instrument companies.

Research Assistant: Isali Kant linkedin

In Februari 2019, Isali joined ASI as a Research Assistant. Having experience with bicycle repair from her former employment, she assists with assembling, organising and various other tasks. Isali is currently doing her Research Project to finish her bachelor’s program in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Amsterdam.

Hans Roeland Poolman combines his experience as business developer and investor, especially in seed and early-stage companies, with a scientific background focused on subatomic physics.
Dr. Poolman is co-founder and managing director of several high tech start-ups. He is the CEO of Omics2Image, and Advisor of Amsterdam Scientific Instruments, subsequently spin-outs from FOM institutes Nikhef and Amolf. These companies are closely related due to their commercialization of Timepix detector technology and the synergies they create due to shared operations at the Science Park in Amsterdam. He received his PhD degree in Experimental Subatomic Physics at VU/Nikhef on January 15, 1999. After a Postdoc position of 2 years at the VU Amsterdam, he joined Lucent Technologies where he held several positions as project manager, exposure manager & asset manager. As project manager he was responsible for the execution of several high profile pan-European projects. In addition, he graduated (Cum Laude) in May 2007 at Babson College (MA, USA) where he received an MSc in Management and Finance.
